"I was fortunate to participate in Baja 1000 race, thanks to Dave. It was one of the most challenging, exhilarating experiences in my life. Most importantly, I learned valuable leadership lessons during the race.
1. Build one team, one dream: Our team consisted of people with different expertise, experience levels, and backgrounds. Dave, the team captain, focused a lot on team dynamics and clear communication which helped us break down the walls even when things got difficult during the race.
2. Show that you trust your team: Throughout the race, Dave often encouraged even the first-timers like me to make the call at crucial moments. This allowed me to build up my confidence and overcome my own insecurity.
3. Lead by example: It’s always easy to talk, but very difficult to walk the talk. At one point, our race Jeep was stuck for hours and required mechanical attention. At that time, I thought that we were done. Yet, Dave rallied the team to work together to fix the Jeep! Then, he jumped into the driver’s seat (after having been up for almost 24 hours) and kept going. This re-energized the team immediately, and taught us what grit and perseverance meant.
I’m so grateful that I got to experience this amazing race."
